Klarius is now into its second year as sponsor for the UK’s fastest growing single make championship, Ma5da Racing, and is excited to confirm a strong field in the 2010 series. Along with the current mk1 championship that has already proven extremely successful, 2010 sees the introduction of the Ma5da Cup – a separate series for mk3 cars.
The Ma5da racing championship was originally set up for mk1 1.6 litre MX-5s. The series quickly became extremely popular and in the 2009 season it was named the fastest growing single make championship in the UK.
Championship Director, Jonathan Blake, comments: “With over 90 cars and 100+ drivers registered for the 2010 Ma5da MX5 Championship, we are now officially the largest one make, single class Championship in the UK. The 20 round championship for Mazda MX5 mk1 1600cc cars takes place over 9 events visiting all major circuits in the UK and has already run full capacity grids for the first three rounds at Brands Hatch (64), Snetterton (54) and Oulton Park (51).”
“The series was conceived to allow motoring enthusiasts to take part in a single make championship with cars that won’t break the bank but still provide a fantastic level of racing. It has proven to be even more popular than we had had initially hoped, last year every race had a full starting grid and we have already had to expand the 2010 season due to popularity. We have also introduced a series for mk3 MX-5s, we hope this will open Ma5da racing to a wider audience and help the sport to continue to grow.”
Bill Godfrey, Sales Manager for the Klarius Group, says: “Since our initial involvement with the championship we have developed a close and successful relationship. We have developed a race exhaust system which, includes a high-flow racing CAT for both the mk1 and mk3 race cars which allows them to deliver top performance – while minimising the impact on the environment with lower noise levels and greatly reduced emissions; the exciting, wheel-to-wheel racing that we see each event however is all thanks to the drivers and the great atmosphere created by the organisers, we are looking forward to the 2010 season proving to be a real success.”
Klarius is Europe’s largest manufacturer of aftermarket exhausts, using highly corrosion resistant and light materials to build fully type approved exhaust systems for most production cars. For the Ma5da championship Klarius has developed this technology to create a finely tuned racing exhaust system that offer weight, performance and cost savings over a hand-built system.
Having invested heavily in R&D over the last few years Klarius was able to design an exhaust system specifically for the cars in the Ma5da series. As well as balancing the back pressure very precisely the design team was able to control the noise, this means that the cars have the best performance possible without breaking any noise limits on track.
Klarius has also developed a racing catalytic converter to work with the customised exhaust system. Believed to be the first commercially available, race developed catalytic converter for road car based series, the CAT has been designed to effectively reduce emissions whilst avoiding any power loss.
Jonathan Blake adds: “Having Klarius on board has been a massive boost for the championship. They have helped to develop effective, high performance systems for cars in both series, the inclusion of the racing CAT has also allowed us to carry the flag for turning British Racing Green. After our joint successes in the 2009 season I am looking forward to another year of fruitful partnership”.
