Growth Through Innovation & By Being Faster to MarketAs a full range manufacturer of exhaust systems and catalytic converters covering 97% of the European car parc, Klarius is highly reactive to market needs; its design, technical and lean manufacturing facilities providing the mechanism that takes products from initial enquiry to market in a matter of days. Klarius specialises in supplying to motor factor buying groups that serve the automotive aftermarket; a sector known for its demanding requirements in terms of model variants, price and delivery. Yet despite these demands, Klarius has grown its business consistently, introducing an unprecedented 100 new references a month, and achieving a 98.7% delivery rate across its factories. Key to these achievements is recent strategic investment of £1.6M in lean manufacturing, training, new production processes and logistics. “While manufacturers must meet supply quickly, if they cannot provide the latest innovative parts they fail to cater sufficiently for the market,” Paul Hannah, Business Development Director at Klarius Group, “Our investment in R&D ensures that when original products become available we begin development promptly, so that when motor factors order the latest replacement parts, Klarius is able to meet demand." Klarius’ Fast Track Cat Development Centre is a prime example of how responsive the company is to its served market. Following substantial initiatives in production equipment, stock control and training, the Centre can now develop, test and manufacture a new catalytic converter in as little as 3 weeks: this from receipt of the initial customer demand to the finished product being available from stock and ready for shipping, next-day. The application of lean principles has made this possible; without employing additional staff, the production cycle has been reduced in terms of time, and the number of new products being produced by the department has risen gone up by 250% in the in the space of just 18- months. |
